New Address

How the Address System works

This is for establishing a new address for any structure that will require any type of utility service.

Do not use this form if you are just moving to a new address at an existing structure.

This system applies to all areas of Etowah County included municipalities are: Boaz, Sardis City, and Ridgeville. Excluded municipalities are: Gadsden City, Rainbow City, Reece City, Southside, Hokes Bluff, Glencoe, Attalla, Altoona, and Walnut Grove. (For the excluded municipalities you will have to contact them directly for your addressing needs)

Note: In order to properly address a structure, there will need to be a sign labeled “9-1-1” posted clearly visible at the road way. (If possible, lined up directly where the front door will be, however if the driveway is long, post the sign at the end of the driveway)
Once your address has been assigned by 9-1-1 addressing you will be advised what the new address is, it may take up to 2 weeks for it to be recognized as an active address through USPS (United States Postal Service). If there are any issues with the assigned address, please contact our office at 256-442-2926.

We suggest that you post 4-inch numbers on the front of your structure clearly visible, also post the numbers on your mailbox and/or mailbox post. (See USPS.com for mailbox installation and guidelines)
(We are NOT affiliated with GOOGLE Maps, APPLE Maps or any other GPS Apps in any way)

DISTANCE-BASED ADDRESSING

– An address exists every 5.28 feet.
– 100 addresses equals one-tenth (1/10) of a mile (528 feet)
– 1000 addresses equals one (1) mile (5,280 feet)

EVEN/ODD ADDRESSING

– As addresses increase (i.e. 33100-33600), even numbered addresses are on the right side of the roadway while odd numbered addresses are on the left.
– As addresses decrease (i.e. 36000-31000), even numbered addresses are on the left side of the roadway while odd numbered addresses are on the right.

ADVANTAGES OF USING DISTANCE BASED ADDRESSING

– Provides emergency responders an efficient and systematic manner of locating structures.
– Addresses are permanent, even if the road is extended or renamed.
– Allows for future expansion such as multiple dwellings on a single lot, development of subdivisions, or the addition of new roads.
